I'm currently reading a book called "Defeating the Hacker" ironically written by a famous hacker Robert Schifren... FASCINATING book, I also have a few other books on the go while I am reading this one,,, One book to concentrate on is never enuff!!! I am also IMpatiently waiting for the arrival in the post of the second book in hte4 memoirs of NASA engineer Homer Hickam ..... (07.03.09)

Leonardo da Vinci (1452-1519) made drawings of gear-driven types of calculating machines (like the idea of a computer) but none have been found built.
1642 Blaise Pascal, invented and built a gear driven adding machine (calculator/computer predecessor) to help his Father who was a taxman.
1822 Charles Babbage designed and proposed a steam driven calculating machine which he called the Difference Engine.,l it was the size of the average household room. (hmmm not so much a Desktop PC as a housefull one)
